We have been watching our caterpillars go through their life cycle: egg, caterpillar, chrysalis, butterfly. Stay tuned for pictures of the metamorphosis!
The end of the year is near! Encourage your child's excitement by reviewing Kindergarten concepts with them. At this point in the year, children should be reading small books (ask your child's teacher about his/her reading level for more information), adding & subtracting, skip counting by 2s, 5s, & 10s, identifying coins and adding values of coins (like a nickel and 3 pennies, 2 dimes and a penny, etc.), and writing sentences using the 3 Things Good Writers Do:
-
First letter of a sentence is UPPERCASE.
-
Put SPACES between words.
-
Have a PERIOD or question mark at the end.
Continue to review the difference between a non-fiction and fiction book with your child. Remember that non-fiction books tell us facts!
Always review sight words and letters/letter sounds with your child. These are the building blocks for reading and will help your child gain skills needed for kindergarten and for first grade.
For more detailed information on what we're learning, please reference your parent newsletter located in your child's EDK folder. Remember to empty those folders out on Fridays and sign the calendar!
